I've been hearing about IE 7 for a year. No release date yet?

Also... if it becomes standards compliant, it'll be difficult for a lot of websites not to break. I suspect juggling this issue may be slowing down the release.

I give MS a lot of credit for really trying to provide some good insight into IE, and for working pretty hard to make it more secure and much more standards compliant. The "slash-dot M$-Haters" will still find (or invent) things to complain about, but I really think they've been going about IE7 the right way.

Even working *with* the firefox people, like this:
http://blogs.msdn.com/rssteam/archive/2005/12/14/503778.aspx

Maybe it is all a smokescreen and I am gullable, but to me it really seems that the Microsoft practices of the last few years or so are very different from the one before that. (i.e., documenting their new office formats and so on)

I read this article:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/pcworld/20060131/tc_pcworld/124542;_ylt=AtMgiMIPFZQilou3pgZhzr4jtBAF;_ylu=X3oDMTA5aHJvMDdwBHNlYwN5bmNhdA--

"IE available to public..."

So I get to that site..and it redirects me to MS with no download, what's the deal?

Hey it works now, I got IE 7...but I must admit the interface is nice very firefox like. However, content on web pages is a LOT more grainier??? It just hurts my eyes...not sure why...

Hmm bit of a culture shock, presumably hints of Vista

The tabs look massive! Can be fixed by unticking the Lock bands menu option

Managed to lose my menu's but retrieved them from the tools button.

Bit of a shame you can't customise the top bar a bit (unless I just haven't found it yet), I prefer the google toolbar to search as I can search UK just by hitting a different button. That still seems to work ok

Bit dissapointed that you can't have proper tabbed browsing - where are the cascade and tiled window options? If the rest of Office can do it...

Phishing filter is a great idea.

On the whole ... interesting IMO

I downloaded it as well. Looks more like a 3rd party product, than an MS product. Radical change.

Same problem am having... WHY ???

Am also having errors every now and then, browser throws an exception and crashes. And appears to be quite sluggish

Guess firefox is more of a friend, in this time of browsing needs :-)

I just found the refresh button. Guess there is a lot of space utilization here

Ok you are right, sure it's beta 2 but this thing is soooo slow!!!
What in the world! And what is up with the toolbars, you cannot move them ? And how in the hell do you reduce the size of those tabs without opening 300 other pages.

You can move the toolbars BUT, not the bar at the top, nor the bar that the tabs are on. If you clear the tick on Tools | Toolbars | Lock Bands then the tabs get slightly smaller. To be fair to MS it is a beta which may explain the speed. (Real) toolbars go between the top bar and the tab bar and can be customised/moved etc as per normal

Surely the real question is this. Why would I want to convert from FireFox? The only benefit I can see is the anti-phishing filter and that's assuming that it does what it says on the tin.

I've put a suggestion in microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general (see http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general&cat=en_us_28cca3eb-7037-4d4f-bde1-d8efee1f1420&lang=en&cr=us&mid=91cf8bd7-0999-4603-b527-8671740f247e with the subject Tabbed browsing) that the tabs work a bit like they might in excel or word i.e. a Multiple document interface. If anyone wants to vote for it ... I'm sure there are plenty of other suggestions that could be made

well Steve, you are correct. Its a beta version.

But i feel they could do much better, being an improvement of IE6. My Yahoo beta version too used to throw exceptions. So i guess "beta versions" are not the way to go

Anyone notice the icon for IE with IE7? Looks like they are going back in time, I could of sworn that was the same icon back for like win98. The netscape / ie years!

I just uninstalled IE7, thank God for add / remove programs, I thought this sucker was here for life! I don't care that its beta 2, it is a HORRIBLE browser. They shifted the refresh and stop to the top of the page next to an address bar that you cant move. Then they placed the home search and rss feed icon on the RIGHT of the browser, meanwhile you search for your favorites icon and they shifted those to the left.

Back to firefox we go...we waited that long for IE7 and that's what they came up with? Maybe they need to invest their time in open source development.

I'm also looking at Avant and I must say that on the whole I greatly prefer it to IE and in some respects to FireFox. What I don't like is this gesture stuff as in Opera. Does anyone use them?

I also prefer IE to firefox and the likes, the only other browser i really do like is enigma at http://suttondesigns.com/ although it feels like an interface of IE.

I also use opera, and only use it to download, ('cause i am not comforatble with it, browsing),but its download capabilities is excellent, and would resume where ever you stop, or the connection breaks.

I am getting used to IE7 beta, and use it alongside firefox.

Although my all time favourite was netscape 4x series.
...well in those days

I don't think there's too much that MS can do with IE7 that would make someone switch back FROM Firefox to IE; I think that probably their main goal (which is more realistic, also) is to keep more people from switching from IE to Firefox going forward.
