Probably not a big deal, but may be worth noting somewhere that the semantics of a "universal symbol", the progress bar, is slowly eroding away.Used to be that the progress bar was a zero to 100% bar. When it reached the 100%, the job was done (more or less). Some software was a little sloppy, taking more or less time to do the job, but the understanding was the job was done.My bank recently upgraded the ATM machine and the larger, brighter display shows a "progress bar" while I wait for my cash. Now these programmers must have been really lazy (was it NCR that built this ATM)? The progress bar simply loops forever moving from left to right, and repeating until your cash appears. Maybe this new progress bar is supposed to say: "Look, we're working on it, so don't hit the machine".I received an updated version of WS FTP Pro today. No major feature enhancements in this update, but it has a slightly upgraded interface... wouldn't you know, they added a progress bar to the file upload, and son of a gun... |

Our drinks machine has a progress bar. (It needs one, it's quite slow)Unfortunately the progress bar is a random length, and there's no indication of how big the bar is going to be until it's finished. So it's useless.-------Moo. :) |

I hate the progress bars that reset. If you want me to know that the program is working, then turn my mouse into an hourglass. The progress bar should be left alone to mark progress.AjHey, it compiles. |

With the amount of time NCR spend laying people off, you'd be a lazy programmer too Damian"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." - Emerson |
