I just got done giving a 2 hour overview of SQL Server to a bunch of mainframe programers (DB2). I barely covered EM and QA

What took all the time? Lots of queations?

Or did they just want to know how to display a query plan with TSO?

The good news is that they retained about 20 minutes of it.

Are you kidding....a glazed over the EM...barely talked about security....explained what the sql server agent was and what a scheduled Job was, the rest was going over tables and the like....explained to them that they would NOT be working in EM much (several times). All the long trying to draw analogies to the mainframe.

That was the first hour. gave them 10 minutes.

Then discussed QA for another hour...talked about TSQL, what sprocs are, how f'ed up the system tables are compared to DB2, information schemas...Show plan and why they should always check the performance, indexes and what index intersection was, how to create sprocs, why they should never use SELECT *, why they should never use cursors(yeah I know, but I was going to them in certain instances it was ok).

Went back to EM to show them how to script tables, and how the TABLE Design GUI saves the script for them.

That's about it....

Got them set up to access Northwind on a test box.

I got some feedback from my director and it was pretty good.
