| I read on Microsoft page and it says that pre-SP2 reports will not work with RS SP2. Is this true or not? I don't want to have to go through recreating all my reports all over again. |

| I have had no problems with pre-sp2 reports after applying sp2. The main reason I installed SP2 was because it was supposed to fix a PDF formatting problem with trimming leading spaces from text, and a few other formatting problems. The problems remain.--KenI want to die in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like his passengers. |

| I just installed it on the developer server for RS. It works great. Anyone able to add in the webpart for Sharepoint Portal 2003? I installed the webpar using command lines, but when I go add the web part, I can't seem to find it.If anyone able to add it successfully, what's the webpart name and how did you get it to install. |

Link me to SP2 for RS :)For some reason the links I keep following get lost in la la land.BTW, are you trying to create a web part or does it come with one ? If you are creating a web part you need to generate a strong name for it using the sn.exe utility in visual studio.netJon

WHy does it say it modifies the databases? I thought the service pack was there to fix bugs not to redo setting up rs?

| That's what happens with SQL Server service packs as well. They often times have to modify the system catalog. Hopefully no one is connecting directly to the ReportServer database anyway, only Report Services should be doing that.Tara |

| When you download SP2 from the Microsoft page, there's another htm file that's at the bottom of the page. The htm file talks about being able to add in the webpart that comes with RS2 to Sharepoint Portal. I did the installation as suggested from the htm page, but when I go to add the webpart, the webpart is not there. At the current moment, I'm using html viewer to link to RS and when the user view link reports, it opens up in its own browser. So if possible a web part would be nice. |

| The document says that it should add to the web.config file already. It doesn't state where I need to change anything other than run the installation from command line and then go add the webpart from sharepoint portal. |

Read it very carefully, there is a BUT in there. Also you will need to modify the web.config file or use the GAC tool on that server. I have just installed it and will be putting in the web part on monday (sounds interesting). I'll also be playing with client printing, and changing page sizes directly via client printing on Monday as well.If I have any luck I'll post back to help you chris.Jon

| Thanks Jon. I thought that all you need to do is just the command inline install and that's it. At least that's what I've been getting from the document. Let me know if you have any luck with it. |

Hey Chris,Well I must say the reporting services web part is super sweet.ALso client printing is gonna be great! Well I have taken two screen shots for you so you can take a look.Here we go:http://www.jakrauseinc.com/jhermiz/sp1.jpghttp://www.jakrauseinc.com/jhermiz/sp2.jpgWhat I have done is taken the report viewer web part and connected it to the report explorer web part. You do not necessairly have to do this, I did it because I love integration, especially for something like this. What you can do is just have the report explorer web part. When you click on a report the actual report will run in a new browser window (this is if you do not connect the report viewer to the report explorer).The nice thing is you can setup subscriptions as well as general viewing for large audiences, especially if you are running a lot of document management on sharepoint. The nice thing about our company is we use sharepoint a LOT..so now instead of having to write my own client viewers or having to go to the report manager and applying specific security, I can simply drop a web part and connect it to the viewer and have my end users just use the portal to access reports.I am super glad reporting services came out with the service pack, we needed it badly!As for installation make sure you are on the server that has reporting services running. When you are on that server goto the command prompt: start->run type 'cmd' and hit enter.When the console screen opens type the following:C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\BIN\STSADM.EXE -o addwppack -filename "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Reporting Services\SharePoint\RSWebParts.cab"After that check your web config files for Sharepoint and follow ms's direction:To run a Web part on SharePoint, the control must be added to the <SafeControls> section of the Web.config file for each virtual server that uses the Web part. While the Stsadm.exe tool automatically adds the control to the <SafeControls> section for the virtual server specified on the command line, you need to add the control to the <SafeControls> section of the Web.config file for each additional virtual server. If you use the -globalinstall switch to add the Web parts to the global assembly cache (GAC), the strong name for the assembly must be used instead of the friendly name in the Web.config file.When creating new virtual servers, you can add the Web part assembly to the <SafeControls> section of the default configuration file you are using. For more information about adding custom configuration settings for extending virtual servers, see the Microsoft Developer Network Web site. If you need more help post back.Jon

| Jon,It looks like I was able to get it in, but seems like there's no security built in or i can't hide link reports. Seems like those feature are missing from the main reporting services application. |
