Hi All,

I have created a backup for the sql server 2008 database.and this I have done in the remote server. So when I checked for the backup I have created in the folder, its not having .bak extension only it have is extension name as file. What is the possibility that its showing wrong? and when I sent that to anyone, the person who is restoring the backup,is not being able to do that.

Please help..Thanks In advance.

How did you create the backup? Wizard, SSMS, command line?

If you used code, could you show it?

The file extension doesn't matter. If your Windows Explorer isn't hiding the extension, then the backup file was created without it. This is a problem with whatever ran the backup.

We'll need the error the person got for the restore.

I created through ,rightclick database- tasks-- backup-full database- selected the folder for backup -created the file name- And ok..the task completed successfully.

The person who opened the backup file ,got it as a dat file.. He didn't say there was some error. The only thing he told is he couldn't do anything with that file.

He just needs to restore it. If he's not comfortable with the dat extension, then he can simply rename it to bak.
