While I prefer a PC to a Mac I must say I love my Iphone.

Farewell your impact on the world was profound.

Even though I hate Apple and its monopolistic business model (courtesy of Mr Jobs himself) he had a profound impact on an entire industry that changed it forever. The IT industry will not be the same without him.

EDIT: And I do in fact own and use an iPhone 3GS and as long as I stay away from iTunes I love it.

You hate Apple and it's monopolistic business model????

Are you sure you're not talking about M$

Bill should have done acid (atomicity, consistency, isolation, durability)

"Are you sure you're not talking about M$"

So I can't activate a new iPhone without installing iTunes etc? If Microsoft did that there would be an outcry ...

So what is M$'s iPhone equivalent?

Besides...don't they own everything else?

And thank good their browser is "open"

What fun I've had over the years...re-imaging this machine, re-imaging that one...chrome

It is in every company's nature to seek market domination but the way Apple forces people to use iTunes (the worst piece of crap software I've ever had to use) for example is nothing less than cruel. The border between genius and insanity is often blurred and I believe Mr Jobs had quite a bit of both. I recently read that his turtleneck-and-jeans uniform was inspired by a visit to a production plant in China and that he pushed quite hard to implement it for ALL Apple employees. Quite a stretch from the "mac-is-for-individualists"-image they have worked so hard to build...

But he alone also changed the entire music AND consumer IT industry and he deserves all the respect in the world for such an accomplishment.

My wife loves her Iphone, she is currently on her second one. Although I am not a massive fan I do appreciate the difference that it made. Someone said that Steve Jobs made IT cool.

Not entirely sure I agree as my wife is now in an extended battle with Apple support who deny her 8 year old iTunes account exists even though she is loggged into it and and has bought things with it, one or two of the people who she has had an email from don't even seem capable of reading what she has written, so perhaps not that cool.
