I was just being a wise guy Brett. Don't take it the wrong way brother.

I'll have been married for 18 years in January.

Congratulations to you and your bride!

As to the question, none of us know what she will appreciate like you do. Jewelry? Maybe. I think a cruise pretty much every year after 15 is in order (and yeah, i know, you just went to fla) but still...

A nice vacation with just the 2 of you and something special that will touch her is in order, whether it be a piece of art, a piece of jewelry, or maybe just a fancy dinner in a place the two of you have never been, or her favorite resteraunt.

The main thing is that this is your opportunity to remind her how wonderful she is and how special she is to you!

A cool thing I did a number of years ago, when we couldn't get away, was to take my wife to a few fancy dress shops, let her try on clothes, pick out whatever she wanted.

99 times out of 100 I'll tell you that sounds like a boring day, but it was really cool -- and I got to see her in all those hot dresses!

Then we went out for a fancy dinner.

Was a great way to spend the day.

So I suppose buying something you saw on late night TV is out of the question ...

I'm with the Jewellery approach. Find a good jeweller, and work with him/her to make something. Cheaper than in-store (IME), better quality gems, and WAY more satisfying looking at individual stones and settings and creating something personal, although I may be spoilt by having a really exceptional Jeweller locally - heck, add a transatlantic flight to the celebration?

I think you could have just given her a shiny penny

We have sometimes gone away for a weekend but to somewhere nearby - last time was to the city I was working in at the time. I know it sounds a bit odd as it was somewhere we both knew quite well but we really saw a side of the place that we normally wouldn't and had a great time. I guess in your case it might be a couple of nights in New York doing the tourist thing.

I hired a tour guide for the day, a few years back, when we had some (American as it happens) business folk visiting our office, and I thought they'd like something "alternative" to do on the first day to combat jet-lag.

Learnt an embarrassing amount about the local area I have lived in all my life!!

Or I'm sure Kristen would take a reasonable percentage to broker it for you............

Well...we hate cruises....done it twice...and didn't have to pay for it....

I mean...I live 20 minuytes outside of THE City...so these cut rate "shows" impress many people....not me...and the food? Well I guess if you eat McDonalds all the time that you might be impressed...it was ok...and "Fun Day at Sea" ummm...no...

Then you have the wownderful excursions....$100 to go snorkeling? Or tubing down the White in Jamaca? ummm no thanks

It's like being held hostage....

This was my last several days...

9/8 Nils Lofgren @ BB Kings on Broadway
9/10 Sushi with the Family then Jazz at Cecils in Orange (Celi Brooks the 3rd)
9/11 David Bromberg at the Sanctuary Concerts in Chatham
9/12 Giants Opening Day (let's not talk about last night)
9/13 Pru Sponsored Golf Outing and Dinner. Lobster and Prime Rib
9/14 Jackson Browne at the Beacon 72nd and 7th?
9/16 watch my rock star freshman daughter set up the gaming winning soccer goal
9/17 I forget...I'm sure something was going on
9/18 Host Birthday party with Boston and NY Relatives at the house
9/19 JETS Kick ass...Brew Pub with Buddy tp wathc his Cheesehead friends (again, let's not talk about the Giants)
9/20 Flat tire on the z28 Camaro...at least it was in the Pru Garage..

Make me a Cruise like that...cept the flat tire of course

But I digress

For my wife....it could be a $4000 tennis braclet, or flowers...it's pretty much the same to her....when they say it's the though that counts, had my wife in mind....still....that bracelet...Damn...I gotta come up with something...

I like the dress idea...maybe we can blow off a 1/2 day on the Friday afternoon before dinner....

If you're ever in the area...the highlawn is a must stop by...even for drinks...

"one of" - you living in cloud cuckoo land?

Cracking spitting image sketch from yester-year:

Charles - reading something
Andrew: "You reading your fan mail Chuck?"
Charles: "Yes"
Andrew: "How many have you got?"
Charles: "One"
Andrew: "Sorry Chuck, How many has one got?"

... and the reason the aristocracy pronounces "House" as "H'ice" is that they have several, and the plural of "Mouse" is "Mice"
