Hi,

I'm doing my first ever SQL Server install(2008 Version).

I have got to the 'Setup Support Rules' part of the install and have got a warning for the Firewall. The warning says the firewall is enabled and I must make sure the appropriate ports are open to allow remote access. There is a link to a site which I think details what ports are to be opened.

I'm not experienced with working with ports but I think I could get the job done if need be. I did however check another SQL Server we have and found that the firewall is disabled on it. Should I just disable the firewall on this new server too or look at opening ports?

If I need to open ports does anybody have info/advice on what to open and how?

Cheers
Paul

We disable it on all of our servers and rely on the network firewalls as well as other things to protect our servers.
